From 19 June to 4 September 2026, the terrace of the Brindisi Youth Hostel will host “Wine Along the Appian Way – Stories of the wineries located along the ancient Appian Way and the heritage they have preserved for thousands of years”, a series of events dedicated to the wineries situated along the final stretch of the Via Appia.
Promoted by the Brindisi Youth Hostel in collaboration with Appia Wine Road, the initiative was created to celebrate wine as a living expression of a region shaped by history, agricultural traditions and a distinctive rural landscape.
From June to September, each event will feature a member winery of Appia Wine Road, presenting a selection of three different types of wine, introduced and described directly by the producers. Wine will thus become a starting point for discovering the Brindisi area through its native grape varieties, its wine-producing businesses and its deep connection with the Via Appia and the Via Traiana.
The series forms part of the wider promotion programme launched by Appia Wine Road, an association established to enhance the wine, cultural and landscape heritage of the Brindisi area along the ancient route of the Regina Viarum, the “Queen of Roads”. The project views wine not merely as a product, but as a key to understanding the landscape, history and contemporary identity of Brindisi.
“This series offers a valuable opportunity to make the story of our local area more accessible and part of everyday life,” says Romina Leopardi, President of Appia Wine Road. “Through wine, we can talk about history, agriculture, communities and landscape. Our collaboration with the Youth Hostel allows us to engage with a wide range of audiences, including local residents and travellers, in an informal yet meaningful setting.”
